METHADONE

What is the effect of methadone?

Methadone is used to treat severe pain (as cancer). Methadone is a narcotic painkiller that works in the brain to change the way body responds to pain.

Methadone is also used to treat addictive drugs (such as heroin), as part of an approved treatment program. Medication helps prevent withdrawal syndrome by stopping the use of addictive drugs.

How should you take the methadone?

You should take medicine with regular schedule as instructed by your doctor and do not use when you have sudden pain. You can take this medicine with or without food. If you have nausea, taking medication with food will improve this. Ask your doctor or pharmacist for other ways to reduce nausea (as lie in 1-2 hours, minimize the movement of head).

The dosage is based on your condition and ability to respond to treatment.
